Source Water Risk Management Plans are a regulatory requirement under the Water Services Act 2021.
The Source Water Risk Management Plan is a fundamental document intended to align with a water suppliers Drinking Water Safety Plan (DWSP). It is the starting point for the Drinking Water Safety Plan risk tables and fed in some cases by the Cyanobacterial Risk Assessment.
Gaining an understanding of hazards and risks present in the supply’s Source Water is an important step in the delivery of safe Drinking Water, taking a source to tap approach.
This risk assessment process identifies the hazards and risks posed to the source water and outlines the preventive measures to mitigate the risks posed to source water prior to treatment at the water treatment plant.
Wai Comply’s approach to source water risk management planning:
- Understand the catchment characteristics.
- Review potential microbiological, chemical, physical and radiological contaminants and contamination pathways.
- Analysis and identification of trends in water quality monitoring results.
- Assess the source class.
- Determine the resulting source water protozoa log credit requirements.
- Identify source and abstraction hazards for the purposes of embedding in the DWSP Risk Tables.
- Identify preventive measures for mitigating risks posed by source water and abstraction hazards.
We also provide a Source Water Risk Management Plan review process for plans we have developed or existing Source Water or Catchment Risk Assessment plans.
